 State Symphony Capella of Russia

State Symphony Capella of Russia was preceded by Soviet Radio Opera Symphony Orchestra established in 1957 by Samuil Samosud, the great master of the Soviet Union. Since 1971 Maxim Shostakovich worked as the artistic director until he  nally  ed to the United States in 1981, and he introduced a large number of compositions of his father, Dimitry. Later the orchestra appointed Gennadi Rozhdestvensky as the artistic director and changed its name to Soviet National Culture Ministry Symphony Orchestra. In 1991 it joined up with Soviet Union National Chamber Choir and was renamed as it is at present. On this occasion the prominent choir conductor Valery Polyansky was appointed to the artistic director, and he remarkably expanded the repertoire of the orchestra by performing such great works as Verdi ‹Requiem›, Dovorak ‹Te Deum› and Rachmaninoff ‹The Bells›. Consequently the orchestra has won the fame as ‹the most excellent symphony orchestra in Russia› and has been regularly invited for the concerts in the ex-Soviet Union territories as well as the western countries including the United States, Great Britain, Switzerland, Germany and Italy.

Since the era of Soviet National Culture Ministry Symphony Orchestra, they have made the numerous recordings such as Tchaikovsky ‹Integral Symphonies› (Chandos) and Shostakovich ‹Symphonies› conducted by Rozhdestvensky and a large number of symphonies and orchestral works conducted by Polyansky have been released including symphonies of Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich, Glazunov ‹Integral Symphonies› and Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic poem ‹The Bells›.
